NAPC E-Newsletter

Summer 2007

Dear NAPC Members,

Hello!  Hoping everyone is enjoying a wonderful summer.  Here are latest updates from the National Association of Planning Councils and its members.

Complete the NAPC survey -- members' consulting services
NAPC is launching a new initiative and all member organizations are invited to participate.  The purpose is to strengthen and support community planning by making the expertise of NAPC members available to others within and outside NAPC.  NAPC will develop an online resource guide to member organizations' consulting, training, and technical assistance services.  Members, please visit the NAPC website, www.communityplanning.org, and follow the link to complete the survey form online.  To be listed when the guide is launched, please respond by August 3rd.

2008 conference, Florida ... join the planning team!
In spring 2008, NAPC's annual conference will take place at a Florida beach resort in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area.  Conference chair Browning Spence (Juvenile Welfare Board--the Children's Services Council of Pinellas) invites interested NAPC members to join the conference committee.  Their first meeting will take place Thursday, July 26, at 12:30 p.m. EST.  To join the committee or make suggestions, please email:  BSpence@jwbpinellas.org.

NAPC has joined the National Assembly
NAPC has joined the National Human Services Assembly, a coalition of more than 70 leading national nonprofit agencies committed to help individuals, families, and communities thrive.  www.nassembly.org. On this website be sure to sign up for the excellent free "Newsbytes" e-newsletter; note the valuable publications, policy briefs, and links; and read about the work of the National Collaboration for Youth and the Family Strengthening Policy Center.

2007 conference photos
This year the conference photos are on the Kodak Gallery website, in two albums:  "2007 NAPC Conference in Minneapolis" and "2007 NAPC Board & Member Recognition."  (1) Go to www.kodakgallery.com (2)  Login using the NAPC account: email address, napc@communityplanning.org; password, community.  (3) Click on an album.  (4) Choose "Slideshow" to view all the photos in that album; use the right arrow to go through them quickly.  (5) Return to the screen showing small pictures of the full album; click on a photo to save it or order prints, if you'd like.

Passages
Very sad news: NAPC has lost a valued long-time colleague.  Judith Rothbaum (Oklahoma City) died last week, following a courageous six-month battle with cancer.  Many NAPC members will remember Judy's good work in her own community as well as her contributions in the early years of NAPC's social indicators work.  She was well-respected and will be greatly missed.  Her website offers insights and resources:  http://www.judithrothbaum.com/index.html

Spotlight on NAPC members' work ... be featured in future e-newsletters
What's new and exciting at your organization?  A new report, study, issue, award, or initiative?  Email NAPC by the end of August and we'll feature your work in the fall e-newsletter, to help all members stay up to date with latest developments and connect with one another.
