Workplace Volunteer Council (WVC)
- provides assistance to corporations that want to
encourage their employees to volunteer. Most corporations have little time for
such endeavors or have no idea where to begin. By providing this service, we not
only increase the number of volunteers to assist agencies, but we create a
better community caring atmosphere. WVC is a local coalition of businesses with
plans to implement and develop an employee volunteer program. WVC offers
networking opportunities, identifies community needs, discusses relevant
business issues and provides member resources for joint projects. Members have
collected "Back to School Backpacks" for Community Service Academy students,
filled a wish list for the Norwalk Hospital Pediatrics Department and have
contributed to a food drive to support Christian Community Action as part of a
"Join Hands Day" project.This
council meets every other month on Tuesday mornings from 8:30 - 10 a.m.
Senior Expansion Program
- recruits senior citizens for a variety of volunteer opportunities to help fill the
ever-increasing demand for volunteers.
Time to Shine (volunteer
opportunities for people with disabilities)
-Time to Shine has been
designed to address the needs of the disabled population in the Fairfield County
area for the benefit of their social assimilation, career-related experience,
skill development and self-esteem enrichment. It is estimated that 70 percent of
Americans with disabilities who have the desire and ability to work are
unemployed. If these individuals have the skills to work, they are qualified to
volunteer if they choose.
Make A Difference Day in
Westport and Norwalk
- groups of volunteers work
together during the last week of October on separate
projects that better their community.
Join Hands Day
- is a national day of service where adults and young people come together to
work as equal partners to plan and carry out a project that benefits the
community
Transitional Program
- helps those who have experienced emotional problems to return to a sense of
self-worth and achievement through appropriate volunteer assignments.
Adult Volunteers in Action (AViA)
- is composed of adults who live and/or work in the Fairfield County area who like
to do group volunteer projects as well as meet new people. AViA members volunteer
to help the community, mainly evenings and weekends, for a variety of not-for-profit
agencies, bringing energy, creativity and much enthusiasm to all their projects.
Management Assistance
Program (MAP)
- connects the expertise of business and corporate personnel with not-for-profit
agencies for short-term consulting projects or longer-term board commitments.
Student Volunteers
in Action (SViA)
- refers individual students from middle school age through college to appropriate
volunteer assignments. This program encourages students to serve their community,
expand their horizons, increase self-confidence and explore career goals.
Family Volunteering
Program (FVP)
- provides volunteer opportunities for parents who are interested in volunteering
with their children under the age of twelve. This program provides parents with
an opportunity to teach children, at an early age, about the value of helping
others and becoming an active member of their community. Statistics show that
one of the benefits of this early initiative is increased self-esteem.
